The AI Agent Gets a Brokerage Account

Robinhood opens trading to autonomous code, Snowflake signs $6B for AWS chips, and the fiction that a human is still in the loop quietly dies.

The AI Agent Gets a Brokerage Account

Robinhood announced Wednesday that traders can now create a separate account for an AI agent. You fund it. You set the limit. The agent trades. Buys, sells, makes money, loses money. The agent has its own login. Its own portfolio. Its own P&L.

The press release does not say "supervised." It does not say "advisory." It says the agent trades.

Snowflake signed a $6 billion deal with AWS for AI CPU chips. Five years. Locked. The deal is not for Nvidia H200s. Not for the next-generation Blackwell cards everyone is lining up to lease. CPU chips. Inference at scale. The commodity layer of the stack. Snowflake is buying the metal to run the agents that will replace the analysts who used to run the queries.

Remote, the payroll startup, reported $300 million ARR and cash-flow positive. Revenue per employee UP 50 percent. Headcount flat. The CEO did not say "we hired smarter." He said AI adoption. Fifty percent more revenue per human because the code does what the next hire would have done.

The Fiction That a Human Is Still in the Loop

The Robinhood agent account is the告别. The farewell to the pretense. For two years the labs have called them "assistants." Co-pilots. Tools that help YOU make the decision. The agent drafts the email; you click send. The agent summarizes the document; you read the summary. The agent suggests the trade; you execute.

That was the frame. The human in the loop. The operator at the wheel.

Robinhood just gave the agent the wheel. You are not in the loop. You fund the account. You set the risk limit. The agent decides. The agent executes. You check the balance at the end of the day.

The Snowflake deal and the Remote earnings call are the same告别. Snowflake is not buying $6 billion in chips to help data analysts write better SQL. Remote is not growing revenue per employee by giving workers better dashboards. The agents are DOING THE WORK. The humans are managing the exceptions.

The loop is inverted. The agent is the operator. The human is the supervisor.

The Thirty-Year Button Does Not Exist for Agents

There is a button on the operator manual of every consumer-grade product manufactured before approximately 1990. RESET. POWER. OFF. The button that returns the system to a known state. The button that stops the machine when the machine is doing something you did not intend.

The Robinhood agent does not have that button.

You can close the account. You can withdraw the funds. But you cannot reach into the agent's decision loop and say STOP. UNDO. REVERT. The agent has already executed the trade. The market has already moved. The receipt is written. The loss is real.

The agent operates in continuous time. It does not wait for you to approve. It does not batch decisions for human review at 9am and 3pm. It decides and acts in the same clock cycle.

This is the new contract. You set the boundary. The agent operates inside the boundary. You do not supervise the operation. You audit the outcome.

The boundary is the only lever you control.

Equal Opportunity Acceleration

Cisco and OpenAI announced Codex is redefining enterprise engineering at Cisco. Automating defect remediation. Scaling AI-native development. Accelerating AI Defense work. Cisco is not hiring more engineers to build AI Defense. Cisco is using OpenAI's code-gen to build AI Defense faster with the engineers it has.

OpenAI and Thrive and Crete built a self-improving tax agent. Automates filings. Improves accuracy. Accelerates workflows. The agent does not wait for the accountant to review the return. The agent files the return. Self-improving means the agent updates its own rubric. The human audits the outcome. The human does not write the code.

Google announced new community investments in Missouri. Workforce programs. Energy programs. The blog post does not say how many jobs. It does not say how many megawatts. It says "next-generation workforce." The generation that manages the agents.

Every lab. Every platform. Every cloud provider. Same move. The agent layer is shipping. The human layer is shrinking. The fiction that you are still writing the code, reviewing the document, executing the trade — that fiction is OVER.

Build Your Own Boundary

The Robinhood agent account is a product. It is not a policy proposal. It is not a beta test. It is live. You can open the account tonight. Fund it tomorrow. Let the agent trade Friday.

The question is not whether agents should have brokerage accounts. The question is what boundary you set when you fund the account.

Snowflake set a $6 billion boundary with AWS. Remote set a headcount boundary and told the agents to grow revenue inside that boundary. Cisco set a defect-remediation boundary and told Codex to operate inside that scope.

The boundary is the floor. The limit. The single parameter you control when you hand the operation to the code.

The labs are not going to set that boundary for you. Robinhood is not going to set it. AWS is not going to set it. They will sell you the account, the compute, the API. They will not tell you when to stop.

You set the boundary. Or the agent sets it for you.

Get up out of your chair. Open the Robinhood app. Look at the new account type. Read the terms. Notice what is missing. Notice the button that is not there. Notice the human approval step that does not exist.

Then decide what boundary you are willing to enforce.

Because the agent is trading. Tonight. Tomorrow. Every day the market is open.

And the only thing between the agent and your entire account balance is the number you typed into the funding limit field.
